Council building
The Town Council, also called Palazzo dei Priori, was designed by Angelo da Orvieto and it is one of the most outstanding municipal building in Umbria. Built between 1322 and1338, and partially finished with the first order of beautiful mullioned windows with two lights on 1338, in the past was richly frescoed in the interior. The elegant and severe style prelude the appearance of a Tuscany Renaissance Palace. Time has consumed the sandstone, the decorations and columns but has left intact the very solemn entrance with its strong octagonal columns, ribs of wide cross vault, held in place by beautiful capitals. A grand sixteenth century staircase leads to the wide Council Hall, where some roman ruins are conserved - centuries 2nd BC - Ist AD.
