Fontecchio Thermal Bath
The Fontecchio thermal bath has been well known since Roman times and it was regularly visited by Pliny the Younger and his beautiful wife, Calpurnia. Nobles from ancient Rome flocked to Fontecchio to enjoy the waters and mud, which promised youth and longevity. In 1860, the architect Guglielmo Calderini restored the building and during about a ninety year period they were managed by different people. In 1949 Galliano Pasqui restored the Spa giving the current day appearance.
Even today, a tank with a roman base collects the water that is then conveyed inside the Spa and used by specialised medical staff for baths, inhalations and thermal mud usage for therapeutic and aesthetic purposes.
