Santuary of Canoscio
Canoscio Basilica is the reference point for those devoted to the Madonna in Umbria and every year over 100.000 worshipper's come to visit it. There has been a building on this site since 1348 when a Chapel dedicated to Madonna was erected (with a Sienese art fresco), it was then enlarged in 1406. The portico on the facade, built in 1905, completes this large 19th century church, now minor Basilica. The old painting of the "Madonna del Transito" has been recently restored. Not far away is "Pieve dei Santi Cosma e Damiano" (Saints Cosma and Damiano Parish Church) from the middle of 12th Century with roman fragments and frescos in Sienese and gothic style.
