International Exhibition of Cribs
The international Exhibition of Nativity Art is held at the Cathedral and other historic venues in Citta’ di Castello, promoted by the Nativity Friends Association, under the patronage of the local Municipality.
In addition to the masters from Naples, international artists specialized in Nativity Art are invited to join this show every year. Other highlights are a selections of nativities from Sicily, including three large pieces; works in plaster executed according to traditional techniques of the early 900’s and the Artists’ Christmas, artworks by the masters of San Giovanni Valdarno. An absolute new entry is a 20sqm-nativity created by the Penna Group in Teverina, featuring over 50 statues, all in motion. The show is held in several locations around town, creating a fascinating itinerary within its historic center: Besides the lower Cathedral, home of Spain, you can visit the Municipal Art Gallery (which inspired the logo of the show: the adoration of the Magi, a glazed earthenware by Andrea della Robbia’s workshop), the Cathedral Museum, the Grifani Donati print shop (with a collection of around two thousand Christmas-themed stamps), St. Phillip’s School, the Tela Umbra workshop, the Loggiato Bufalini, the Torrione and, among the sacred buildings, the monastery of the Monache Clarisse Urbanistiche, the churches of Santa Maria Maggiore, St. Francis, Santa Maria Nova, Mattonata, Zoccolanti, San Martin d’Upò and the Belvedere sanctuary.
